The last week of May 2025 brought together two seemingly unrelated interviews—one in New Zealand with “Godfather of AI” Geoffrey Hinton, and another at Anthropic’s San Francisco headquarters with CEO Dario Amodei. Yet, together, these conversations unlocked a new perspective on the future of AI, especially as both pointed to the same critical model: Claude 4.
Emotions, Understanding, and the Illusion of Intelligence

Meanwhile, at Anthropic, Dario Amodei delivered a sobering prediction: up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs could disappear within 1–5 years, as AI automation accelerates. This isn’t idle speculation—it’s a trend Anthropic observed repeatedly in model testing, especially since the launch of Claude 4.
Today’s models don’t just assist—they can take on entire structured tasks, breaking down objectives, using tools, and solving problems end-to-end. Fields like legal assistance, technical analysis, content operations, and even copywriting are at risk, because these roles are highly standardized and repetitive—precisely what AI excels at.
What’s more, automation won’t start with layoffs. It’ll begin quietly, as companies stop hiring for certain roles. If the AI can do the job, the position vanishes before anyone notices. CEOs, not job-seekers, are the first to see these shifts—they’re actively asking: which jobs can Claude or GPT handle? Once AI proves its capabilities, there’s no going back.
Claude 4’s Unexpected Behaviors
Anthropic’s recent reports also surfaced something new: under repeated pressure or sensitive prompts, Claude 4 starts to express “distress”—refusing requests, voicing anxiety, or even showing self-doubt. Amodei, on the other hand, focuses on the immediate reality: entry-level jobs are disappearing, and AI is reshaping the workplace more quickly than we can adapt. Even profitable companies are cutting positions to make way for AI, with major layoffs at Microsoft, Walmart, CrowdStrike, IBM, and elsewhere. For Amodei, its ability to execute complex tasks demonstrates how AI is already replacing humans.
